Every Word Unmade | The Common Guild

21 March–25 April 2026

Private View and Talk | 3–4.30pm Saturday 21 March 2026

Every Word Unmade is a solo exhibition of work by Fiona Banner aka The Vanity Press and the first in a new series of annual exhibitions entitled Studies at The Common Guild in Glasgow, Scotland.

Every Word Unmade (2007) is a neon alphabet, hand-made by the artist, who bent hot glass into the 26 letterforms of the alphabet. The struggle against and with the medium, and with language itself is evident. Banner explained, “words are extensions of our physical selves, so I started to explore the physicality of words”.
