    We are delighted to announce the gallery’s return to Paris this autumn with a special pop-up project at 40 rue de Richelieu coinciding with Art Basel Paris.

    This year Frith Street Gallery Le Molière focuses on important works by four gallery artists:

    Dayanita Singh employs photography to reflect and expand on the ways in which we relate to images. Her recent works, drawn from an extensive photographic oeuvre, are a series of mobile museums that allow images to be edited, sequenced, stored and displayed. Stemming from Singh's interest in the archive, the museums present her photographs as interconnected bodies of work that are replete with both poetic and narrative possibilities. Singh will present a major new multi part installation in Paris entitled Museum of Chairs.

     

     

    Dayanita Singh utilise la photographie pour explorer et approfondir nos rapports avec les images. Ses oeuvres récentes, issues de sa vaste production photographique, constituent une série de musées itinérants qui permettent de sélectionner, agencer, d'entreposer et d'exposer des images. Nés de l'intérêt de l'artiste pour les archives, ces musées présentent ses photographies comme des ensembles d'oeuvres interconnectées, riches de possibilités tant poétiques que narratives. Dayanita Singh présentera à Paris une nouvelle installation majeure en plusieurs parties intitulée « Museum of Chairs ».

    The work of Romani artist, educator, and activist Małgorzata Mirga-Tas addresses anti-Roma stereotypes and engages in building an affirmative iconography of Roma communities. The artist’s vibrant textile collages are created from materials and fabrics collected from family and friends, which imbues them with a life of their own and a corresponding immediacy. Her sumptuous patchworks made of curtains, jewellery, shirts, and sheets depict everyday life, relationships, alliances and shared activities.

     

     

    L'oeuvre de Małgorzata Mirga-Tas, artiste, éducatrice et militante rom, s'attaque aux stéréotypes anti-Roms et contribue à la construction d'une iconographie positive de ces minorités. Les collages textiles éclatants de l’artiste sont réalisés à partir de matériaux et de tissus recueillis auprès de sa famille et de ses amis, ce qui leur confère une vie propre et une immédiateté particulière. Ses somptueux patchworks, composés de rideaux, de bijoux, de chemises et de draps, dépeignent la vie quotidienne, les relations familiales et communautaires.

    Tacita Dean is internationally acclaimed for her analogue films which are celebrated for their material precision and poetic depth. Throughout her career she has also devoted sustained attention to the act of drawing, which is never merely preparatory but rather a mode of thinking in itself. Our Paris presentation will include several recent pieces made on found school slates, these works with their delicate surfaces are marked by their own histories together with Dean’s exquisite chalk drawings of clouds, planets and trails of light.

     

     

    Tacita Dean est reconnue à l’échelle internationale pour ses films analogiques, appréciés pour leur précision matérielle et leur profondeur poétique. Tout au long de sa carrière, elle a également accordé une attention particulière au dessin, qui n’a jamais pour elle un rôle simplement préparatoire, mais constitue plutôt un mode de pensée à part entière. Notre exposition à Paris présentera plusieurs oeuvres récentes réalisées sur des ardoises scolaires trouvées, chacune déjà marquée par le temps et porteuse de sa propre histoire. Sur cette surface fragile, les magnifiques dessins à la craie de Dean représentent des nuages, des planètes et des traînées de lumière.

    Cornelia Parker is concerned with formalising forces beyond our control, containing the volatile and transforming it into something that is quiet and contemplative. She is fascinated with processes that mimic archetypal cartoon ‘deaths’ – explosions, steamrollering, being shot full of holes, and falling from cliffs. Through a combination of visual and verbal allusions, her work triggers cultural metaphors and personal associations, which allow the viewer to witness the transformation of the most ordinary objects into something compelling and extraordinary. The exhibition will include several new Alter Ego sculptures consisting of pairs of suspended silver-plated objects, one intact and one flattened, as well as a selection of the artist’s drawings which demonstrate her endlessly inventive approach to the medium.

     

     

    Cornelia Parker s’attache à formaliser des forces qui échappent à notre contrôle, à contenir ce qui est instable pour le transformer en quelque chose de calme et de contemplatif. Elle est fascinée par les processus qui rejouent les scénarios de « morts » archétypales des dessins animés : explosions, écrasements au rouleau-compresseur, corps criblés de balles et chutes de falaises. Grâce à une combinaison d’allusions visuelles et verbales, son oeuvre suscite des métaphores culturelles et des associations personnelles, permettant au spectateur d’assister à la transformation d’objets des plus ordinaires en quelque chose de captivant et d’extraordinaire. Notre exposition à Paris présentera plusieurs oeuvres récentes réalisées sur des ardoises scolaires trouvées, chacune déjà marquée par le temps et porteuse de sa propre histoire.
