Polly Apfelbaum’s exhibition Red Desert, Red Mountain, Red Sea at Magasin III Jaffa, Israel will now open on Tuesday 15 March.
Taking as its starting point Apfelbaum’s 1993 work Red Desert, the exhibition’s immersive site-specific installation uses painting, sculpture and installation to create an overwhelming and sensual imaginary environment. The exhibition draws upon a multitude of references from the landscapes of the Red Desert in Wyoming and the peak of the Red Mountain in southern Colorado, to specific cultural references such as Antonioni’s 1964 film Red Desert and quotes by Josef Albers. Apfelbaum invites the viewer not only to see, but to take an active role in the exciting exploration of boundaries, painting, abstraction, and colour.
Red Desert, Red Mountain, Red Sea will be Apfelbaum’s third exhibition to open in one month, all spread across three continents.
