LIMITED EDITION: Cornelia Parker, Stop

Embossed enamel sign with hand-painted white lettering

Published by Plinth supporting Ikon 50, 2015

ISBN 13:

Dimensions: 487 x 248 x 8mm, Limited edition of 50, Signed by the Artist

Artist: Cornelia Parker

This limited edition is based on a photograph Cornelia Parker took of a battered parking notice on a 1960’s council estate in North London. Of the piece, the artist says "The signs are ubiquitous in London, displayed on all the estates of the period. Isolated from its context the instruction can refer to anything you want it to. Stop eating, Stop drinking, Stop smoking, Stop thinking, Stop worrying, Stop. The fact it is made in enamel means it has a certain authority commanding you to submit, (or to ignore if that is what you usually do to signs!). The black enamel encroaches on the white word, semi-submerged it suggests the viewer is perhaps leaving it a little too long to respond."

LIMITED EDITION: Cornelia Parker, ‘Stolen Thunder (Red Spot)’

Edition of 100

Published by Cornelia Parker, 2013

ISBN 13:

Dimensions: 48.7 x 46 cm (unframed)

Artist: Cornelia Parker

For this work, Cornelia Parker visited the 2012 Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and took a clandestine photo of one of the most successful prints in the show. It was (as is traditional at the RA) plastered in red dots to mark the sales. A rush of covetousness came over her. Not able to make a representational image that might accrue such sales, Parker resorted to abstraction. Digitally erasing the image that she had stolen, Parker exhibited the photograph of the print as her own work in the 2013 RA Summer show, retaining the red spots as part of the piece in the hope of accruing some of her own sales by a Pavlovian response from the audience.

LIMITED EDITION: Cornelia Parker, ‘Sitting, Thinking About Explosions in a Small Quiet Room’; 2012

Published by Cornelia Parker, 2013

ISBN 13:

Artist: Cornelia Parker

7” white vinyl record, signed on label, in printed record sleeve and box.
Duration: each side 5 minutes 11 seconds.
Edition of 50 + 5 APs.

Cornelia Parker’s, ‘Sitting Thinking About Explosions in a Small Quiet Room’ 2012, was originally commissioned for the exhibition ‘Silences’ (2012) at Temple Contemporary, Philadelphia. It is a recording of a performance in which the artist, as the title says, sits and thinks about explosions: extreme, noisy and alarming thoughts in a serene setting. The resulting track is a combination of Parker’s breathing and the sound of the stylus cutting through vinyl.
