Tacita Dean awarded Prix Benois de la Danse

Artist Tacita Dean has been awarded a Prix Benois de la Danse 2021 for her set and costumes created for The Dante Project, a new ballet choreographed by Wayne McGregor, alongside composer-conductor Thomas Adès, esteemed lighting designer Lucy Carter and dramaturg Uzma Hameed.

Commissioned by the Royal Opera House, the first part of the three-part ballet - Inferno - premiered at the Los Angeles Music Centre in July 2019 and will be shown in its entirety at the London's Royal Opera House in October 2021. Benois de la Danse, the international ballet prize known as the “Ballet Oscars,” is awarded annually, by a panel of internationally renowned judges, for the most prominent accomplishments in choreography during the previous year.
